Vice: Magic City Mayhem had the perfect combination of USPs under its belt. A top down Zelda-like adventure with Grand Theft Auto-like humour and charm.
This gave us plenty of opportunity to show off the game through multiple creative, showcasing gameplay, dialogue and exploration.
The budget was small, but we made it work by investing majority of the budget into its pre-launch to gather as many followers as possible targeting audiences with interest in retro gaming, zelda and grand theft auto, and also targeting interest in meme-culture to tap into the humour of the game to new audiences.
The game edged towards the lower price point to compete with the pixel market, but the style and humorous vibes gave us plenty of opportunity to get creative with rewards, giving nostalgic throwbacks to the GTA phonebooth messaging and custom NPCs to backers.

Custom Retro NPC Designs
Vice: Magic City Mayhem's price point was too low to just launch on its own when using an advertising budget. We needed a way to bring up the average pledge price per backer and to increase rewards from $12 to $50+.
We gave backers exclusive cosmetics to avoid lowering the cost even further and introduced the Magic City OG reawrd for $85, that allowed backers to be come pixel NPCs within the game and be come interactable with a custom message to players. This reward had over 40 backers, generating $3,910 in revenue alone.
We also had rewards ranging from $400-$650 claimed by 6 backers.
